HAVERFORD, Pa.– Senior hitters Katie Merrill and Mikecia Witherspoon combined for 25 kills as Bryn Mawr fell to rival Haverford 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) in a must-win conference tilt Wednesday night on the Main Line.

With a win, Bryn Mawr would have been almost a sure lock into the Centennial Conference tournament, but instead, it looks like the Owls will be on the outside looking in again as Haverford is poised to be the final team to make the end-of-the-year foray.

In the opening frame, Bryn Mawr was one point behind, 19-20, before a pair of kills and attack errors by the Owls did Bryn Mawr in. The first set saw nine lead changes before Haverford won the set on an attack error by Witherspoon.

In the second set, Haverford held a commanding 20-14 lead before Bryn Mawr fought back to pull within four, 23-19. The Fords held off the battling Owls to take the set 25-21.

In the final set, Bryn Mawr jumped out to an early 11-6 lead but unforced errors by the wreaked havoc on the Owls. Haverford bounced back from their deficit to tie the game at 14-apiece before moving on to the 25-21 victory.

In addition to her team-high 13 kills, Witherspoon added seven digs and one service ace. Merrill chipped in with nine digs and two total blocks. Freshman Danielle Preziuso handed-out 14 assist while senior Emily Takeuchi-Miller dished-out nine.

The Owls will welcome Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1:00 pm for a conference tilt.
