GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College volleyball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Gettysburg for a tri-match with the Bullets and Cortland.
In the day's first match, the Owls faced a Gettysburg team that prevented the Owls from going to the conference tournament a year ago and Bryn Mawr was looking for revenge. At the end of the match, Gettysburg topped the Owls 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-16) to stay undefeated in league play.
Leading the Owls in the opening match was senior Katie Merrill with 11 digs and eight kills. Adding six kills was senior Mikecia Witherspoon while junior Hannah Rosebrock tallied five kills.
Freshman Danielle Preziuso handed-out 13 assists while senior Emily Takeuchi-Miller and Witherspoon added six digs apiece.
In the afternoon match with Cortland, the Dragons also topped the Owls 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-15). With the win, the nationally ranked Cortland team moved to 28-1 on the season.
Merrill paced the Owls with a game-best 12 kills and two blocks. Witherspoon tallied eight kills and Takeuchi-Miller dished-out 18 assists.
Digging a team-best six attacks was Merrill while freshman Ellen Chiu dug five.
The pair of losses drops Bryn Mawr to 9-13 overall and 3-3 in conference action. They return to the hardwood on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they travel down Rt. 30 to take on Haverford at 7:00 pm.
