Rachel Sandler returns for a second stint as an Assistant Coach of Cross Country and Track & Field at Bryn Mawr College. Sandler earned her first Owl feathers starting in 2010, assisting with endurance, sprints, and hurdles during her time with the team. During her hiatus, Sandler started her own business training adult athletes from all walks of life. Most recently, the avid runner and mother of two has taken over instruction for the weekly speed group for a local running club. Experienced in events from 800m to Marathon, she is USATF Level I certified and represented Bryn Mawr at the USTFCCCA National Convention in December 2011.Â
Sandler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Haverford College (minor in French) in 2005. While at Haverford, she competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track; her main events were the 800m and 1500m. She was also a student athletic trainer at Haverford and worked with a variety of sports teams. After her first experience coaching at Bryn Mawr, Sandler head back to the classroom to earn her Masters in Sport Management from Drexel University.Â
A native of Philadelphia, Sandler graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia, where she also competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. She qualified for and competed in the PA State Meet in the mile and was captain her senior year for all 3 seasons. Rachel attended Briarwood Running Camp during the summers of high school and was a counselor at the camp for a summer in college.Â
Sandler has a strong passion for running and after realizing that a career in employee health benefits consulting or biostatics were not the right fit for her, she decided that she wanted to become a coach. She currently competes in a wide variety of events and can often be seen training in with the athletes on supplemental activities. Â
