Bryn Mawr College Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID):
Carla Coleman, Head Basketball Coach
NCAA ADID website: https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2021/7/26/athletics-diversity-and-inclusion-designees.aspx
I. Description of ADID
The Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee, known as the ADID, is a staff member designated by the chancellor/president or Director of Athletics. ADID serves as the conduit for information related to issues of diversity and inclusion and supports diverse and inclusive practices related to athletics. The NCAA requires each athletic department and conference office to establish an ADID to serve as the primary contact for diversity and inclusion-related information between conference offices, campuses, athletic departments, and the NCAA.
II. Importance of ADID to the BMC Community and our scholar-athletes
The ADID helps to strengthen the NCAA's values and principles around inclusion. Additionally, it reaffirms the importance of recognizing diversity and inclusion, as inclusion is a key principle of the NCAA. Coach Coleman shares information associated with policies and programs developed by The Centennial Conference focusing on variety of areas that may touch race, gender, LGBTQ, student-athletes who may have disabilities, international student-athletes, and other higher education or athletics matters.
III. Role as Bryn Mawr's ADID Designee
As the ADID for Bryn Mawr Athletics, Coleman works with other ADID's at the Centennial Conference in developing the Student-Athlete Inclusion Policy. She also provides information around inclusive programs, emerging diversity issues and other equity-related initiatives between the Centennial Conference and within our athletic department. This fall, Coleman will be introducing Bryn Mawr Athletics' first DEIA Athletics Newsletter. The newsletter will be distributed throughout athletics and the Bryn Mawr Community.
