Owls Grab a Win and Loss in a Tri-Meet at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.— The Bryn Mawr swim team competed in a tri-met hosted by Elizabethtown earlier Saturday afternoon. The Owls earned a win over Cabrini but were edged out by Elizabethtown in the final relay event of the day.

Overall, the Owls had an impressive day in the Alumni Pool to earn seven first place wins in individual events while five Owls earned personal records (PR) on the day.

Highlights:
  • The Owls had a strong start to the tri-meet with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The squad of Maya Madden, Mina Rothberg, Dalia Ibrahim, and Ellie Berry finished with a time of 1:58.33.
  • Senior Vivian Sandifer (11:36.96) won the 1000 freestyle, the first individual meet of the day. Sophomore Kayla Bass earned a PR in the event with a time of 13:11.46.
  • Sandifer would later go on to place second in the 200 backstroke (2:26.73) and the 500 freestyle (5:40.75). Owl Anna Roumiantsev earned a personal record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:45.45 while fellow senior Adjoa Acquaah earned a personal record of 6:30.59 in the 500 freestyle.
  • Junior Maddie Sullivan had her strongest meet of the early season to record two first place finishes, a second place finish, and two PRs. Sullivan's first individual event of the afternoon was the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97), in which she finished first. In her next event of the day, Sullivan earned a PR and second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:40.36).
  • Sullivan earned her second first place finish in the 100 butterfly with a PR of 1:03.69. Madden (1:04.88) earned a second place finish in the event directly followed by Ibrahim (1:05.21).
  • Ibrahim finished second in two events of the tri-meet, the 50 freestyle (26.22) and 100 freestyle (57.84).
  • Sophomore Jane Farrell finished first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:22.82 with a PR for the young Owl. Earlier in the day, Farrell earned a PR in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.29.
  • First-year Rothberg also had a strong day to finish first in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.58) followed by another first place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:22.79).
  • First-year Ellie Berry finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.37).
  • In the final event of the day, the Owls competed in the 200 freestyle relay. The squad of Acquaah, Madden, Sullivan, and Rothberg finished second with a time of 1:48.22 while the squad of Katharine Briggs, Farrell, Samantha Ings, and Felicia Pursner finished third with a time of 1:50.29. Both times earned these Owls a spot in the Bryn Mawr Top-10 fastest times in the event.
The Owls will return to the block next Saturday as they travel to Lancaster, Pa. to compete in a Centennial Conference match-up against Franklin & Marshall.
