BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Jane Farrell '26 and Kelly Peterson '23 topped the 100 Yard Butterfly, Maddie Sullivan '25 and Kit Briggs '25 placed first and second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, and Teagan Rooney '25 dominated the 200 Yard IM as Bryn Mawr welcomed Franklin and Marshall for the penultimate dual meet of the 2022-23 season.
Franklin and Marshall finished ahead on points 130-68, but it was a strong showing for Owls in their first competition after returning home from a winter break training trip in Puerto Rico as they posted nine top-two finishes overall.
Farrell and Peterson posted the top splits on each lap of the 100 Yard Butterfly, touching home in 1:02.75 and 1:04.71 respectively.
In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Sullivan touched the halfway point over a second clear of the field, but Briggs found herself in fourth. As Sullivan pulled away for a 1:12.20 finish, Briggs quickly pulled past Franklin and Marshall's Katarine Dominguez and set her sights on Amelia Bothwell off the final turn. The Bryn Mawr sophomore out-touched Dominguez by .03 seconds with a season-best time of 1:15.47.
Rooney continued her stellar sophomore season with her first-place finish in the 200 Yard IM out-pacing the field by over three seconds.
The opening event proved a harbinger for the excitement of the meet. With the Diplomats' A Relay in the 200 Yard Medley leading the way, the Owl's A Relay of Maya Madden '26, Sullivan, Farrell, and Peterson found themselves even with the Diplomats' B Relay at every turn. Peterson matched Franklin and Marshall anchor Stephanie Dolan stroke for stroke down the final stretch, and the two touched the wall with identical times of 1:56:64.
Vivian Sandifer '24 followed with a second-place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, her first of two silver finishes of the afternoon. Sandifer also placed second in the 500 Yard Freestyle in her return to the event after posting a personal best time in her last swim at Millersville.
Felicia Pursner '25 in the 200 Yard and 500 Yard Freestyle, Melanie Golden '25 in the 100 Yard Backstroke, and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay of Peterson, Farrell, Briggs, and Sullivan each earned top-three finishes for Bryn Mawr too.
Prior to the meet, the Owls celebrated the 2023 senior class of Rachel Adlai-Gail, Peterson, and Emmy Wisz. Adlai-Gail and Wisz both swam strong legs in the 200 Yard Medley and 200 Yard Freestyle relays, and Adlai-Gail picked up a point in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Bryn Mawr returns to the water on Saturday with a visit to McDaniel. Swimming is scheduled to begin at 1 PM.
