COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Friday afternoon the Owls traveled to Ursinus to compete in their second meet of the season. Bryn Mawr racked up wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay, earning 18 more points than last season's meet against the Bears.
First-year Jane Farrell racked up another huge night for the Owls after her debut two weeks ago. Farrell claimed first place in the 100 butterfly (1:01.76) with Maya Madden finishing closely behind for second place (1:02.56). Farrell's time in the 100 butterfly is the seventh fastest finish in record history. Farrell and teammates Madeline Lee, Kelly Peterson, and Melanie Golden also finished first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:48.73), marking the third fastest time in record history. Madden and Farrell were also part of the 200 medley relay, including sophomore Maddie Sullivan and first-year Grace Wing, who came in second in the 200 medley relay. The group's finish resulted in the fourth fastest time in record history.
Sullivan and Wing also had successful nights in other events. Sullivan broke a program record in the 100 breaststroke at the evenings meet. Earning second place with a time of 1:12.29, Sullivan time was the fifth fastest in program history. Wing competed in the 50 freestyle (26.18) and 100 freestyle (58.74) to finish in second and third place respectively.
The Owls earned second place in the following events: 200 freestyle (Peterson), 500 freestyle (Teagan Rooney), and 200 medley relay (Emmy Wisz/Zoe Miller/Kit Briggs/Felicia Pursner).
The Owls earned third place in the following events: 200 medley relay (Zoe Miller/Rachel Shwartzer/Wisz/Briggs), 100 freestyle (Vivian Sandifer), 200 yard (Pursner), 50 freestyle (Madden), 200 IM (Melanie Golden), 100 backstroke (Golden), 500 freestyle (Sandifer), and 100 breaststroke (Lauren Johnson).
Other notable performances include Clara Hartman, Lanie Edelson, Paige DiFronzo, Kayla Bass, and Emma Rideout-Mann. Hartman finished fourth in the 500 freestyle, Edelson finished fifth in the 200 freestyle, DiFronzo finished fourth in the 200 IM, Bass finished fourth in the 100 breastroke, and Rideout-Mann swam in the 100 backstroke.
Although the Owls earned 18 additional points than in last season's meet against Ursinus, Bryn Mawr ultimately fell 93-110.
Bryn Mawr will return on Saturday to compete in their first non-conference meet against Cabrini and Elizabethtown.
