MEDIA, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr cross country team kicked off a busy weekend of Owls athletics action earlier Friday afternoon by hosting the first annual Owls Open. Although it was a bit smaller of a meet than the normal turnout at their annual Bryn Mawr Invitational, the Owls performance was no less impressive. Bryn Mawr took first place as a team in the meet, thanks to their runners claiming the top five points positions in the race. Sarah Keane was the top finisher for the Owls on the day, coming in second place overall in a time of 29:15.
Keane was followed close behind by fellow first-year Amelia McDonnell, who finished in a time of 30:09. A pair of juniors finished next for the Owls, with Shannon Fisher posting a time of 30:56 and Nina Inman following close behind with a 30:58. First-year Carey Parker rounded out the top five Owls finishers, finishing in a time of 31:14. Zoe Shinefield also brought home a top-ten finish with a time of 31:42.
Overall, Clarks Summit's Abigail Haines earned the individual victory, running a course-record time of 28:30. The men's race saw another course record out of the top finisher, a 30:31 from Williamson's Patrick James.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action tomorrow, as the Owls will send a small contingent to the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
*The team was supported by the Fishers, the Parkers, the McDonnells, and significant others. Many thanks to those who made it out to the race and those that supported the Owls from afar. - Coach Hewitt*
