MEDIA, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr cross country team opened their 2016 season off with a strong showing at their home invitational on Thursday evening. The Owls hosted teams from across the region to the Bryn Mawr Invitational and showcased just why they are prepped for big things this fall in the cross country world. Junior Kate Edwards led the way for the Owls by taking a third place finish in a time of 20:10 at the event.
Senior captain Ashley Macina got her final season off to a good start as the next Owl to cross the line. Macina posted a solid 14th place finish in a time of 21:45. Right behind her were sophomores Haley Varnum and Chelsea Thangavelu, who finished just seconds apart in 16th and 17th.
Anna Kyle was the top first-year runner to cross the line for the Owls, coming home in a time of 22:39 for a 22nd place finish. Sophie Webb and freshman Nina Inman rounded out the top seven for Bryn Mawr, with Inman taking 32nd in her first collegiate race.
Allegra Wham, Claire Petitt, and Hannah Kim all showed off some hard work over the summer as well as the other three returners in the race. Meanwhile, freshmen Campbell Powell, Emily Williams, Grace Cain, Cecilia White, and Hope Jones all had good starts to their careers in their collegiate debuts.
Thanks to the Thursday start, the Owls will now get the weekend off from competition. Bryn Mawr will be right back in action next weekend with a split-squad day. Half the team will travel to Delaware Valley for the DVU Invitational, while others will be in action looking for another strong performance at the Highlander Invitational at Cairn.
