Owls Close Out Season at Regional Championships

Newville, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr cross country team closed out their 2014 season earlier Saturday afternoon by taking part in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, hosted by Dickinson College. The Owls finished the season on another high note, taking home 18th place as a team in the event, a solid improvement over last season's finish.

Bryn Mawr was led by junior Hannah Hastings, who raced home in 27th place. Her time of 22:49 was 14 seconds faster than last year, and helped her finish 34 spots higher as well. Her time today was just short of a qualification for the national championship, but she was selected to the All-Region team for her great effort.

Senior Kim Wiley came in next for the Owls. She closed out her Bryn Mawr career with a 79th place finish in the event, posting a time of 24:02. Freshman Kate Edwards followed close behind, posting a time of 24:27 in her first appearance at the event. That time was good enough for 105th place. Fellow freshman Rebekah Gallop came in fourth for the Owls, taking 144th place with a time of 24:55.

Elaine Schmidt posted a 154th place finish in her final race as an Owl, coming in in a time of 25:09 as the final counting runner for Bryn Mawr. Junior Alexandra Beda posted a season-best time of 25:50 to take 204th in the event, and sophomore Sydney Maves closed out the day for the Owls with a 253rd place finish at a time of 26:57.

Johns Hopkins took the team title in the championship, with Sophia Meehan taking the individual win for the Blue Jays. Overall, the Centennial Conference featured seven of the top 20 finishing teams in the event, out of 52 total teams competing.
