Hastings Takes Second in Seven Sisters Championship

South Hadley, Mass. – Bryn Mawr's cross country team travelled to Mount Holyoke College this weekend for the 2014 Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship. In a contest that featured numerous quality runners from the different Sisters schools, Bryn Mawr took home a fifth-place team finish. Junior Hannah Hastings once again sparkled for the Owls to lead the way, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts on the course.

On a beautiful late-fall day in New England, the Owls managed to put together a solid meet that will hopefully serve as a springboard into the final few weeks of their regular season. Hastings led the way for the Yellow and Black, finishing the challenging 6k course in a time of 22:51."She opened with a quick 5:55," stated Owls head coach Jason Hewitt, "And then she used the next two miles to move into the top five, and out-kicked a Wellesley runner to take that second place finish."

Freshman Kate Edwards continued her solid fall campaign by coming home second for the Owls, completing the race in 24:25. Senior Kim Wiley ran a season-best 24:39, and fellow freshman Rebekah Gallop finished close behind with a time of 24:49. The final counting finisher for Bryn Mawr was senior Elaine Schmidt, who finished with a time of 25:25. Junior Alex Beda and sophomore Sydney Maves closed out the top seven for the Owls, finishing with times of 26:26 and 26:46 for the Owls.

Other Bryn Mawr runners to compete included Yue Yang, Sophia Randazzo, Adriana Castilla Hernandez, Taoran Ye and Jocelyn Martinez, all of whom put up personal records in the 6k distance today. Margaret Patchin also put together a season-best finish herself.

Bryn Mawr will return home this afternoon and spend the week preparing for their final regular season meet next Friday. The Owls will travel down the main line to participate in the Haverford Invitational next Friday, October 24th. Last season, Hastings was once again the top finisher in the event for the Owls as she took home ninth place. She and all the rest of Bryn Mawr squad will look to continue their strong fall season with a big finish in the event, and it all gets underway at 4:30 PM in Haverford.
