Newville, Pa. – Bryn Mawr's cross country team continued their fall season earlier Saturday afternoon by competing at the Long-Short Invitational hosted by Dickinson College. The two-race event saw the Owls post some quality results, both in individual times and team scores.
In the first race of the day, the "Long" 6k event, Hannah Hastings led the way with a 23:17 finish. That time was good enough for fourth place among the numerous racers on the course. Other notable finishes included senior captain Elaine Schmidt, who beat her personal record for the six kilometer distance by over a minute. Junior Yue Yang also ran a personal record time for the distance, while Kate Edwards and Kim Wiley provided noteworthy races as well. The duo of Sophia Randazzo and Olivia Carmichael stole the show, however, as the young runners both put up great races with solid pacing and finishes. Overall, the Owls took home tenth in the long race, just behind Carnegie Mellon but ahead of Elizabethtown and several Centennial Conference squads like Muhlenberg and Gettysburg.
In the short race, Taoran Ye was the lone Owl to compete. She ran a 24:17 in beautiful fashion, which is a new personal record for her in the four kilometer distance.
Full results of today's meet will be posted as soon as they are sent in. The Owls will have a short week of preparation ahead of them as they close out September by racing at the Lancaster Bible Homecoming meet. That event will take place on Friday evening at 4:00 PM in Lancaster.
