Cross Country Has Strong Showing at Home Race

MEDIA, Pa. – In their annual home race at Rose Tree Park in Media, Pa., the Bryn Mawr College cross country team had yet another strong showing early in the 2023 season.

Leading the way for the Owls was junior Claudia Keep, who for the second week in a row won the race with a time of 20:08. She finished the 5K race more than one minute ahead of second place Emma Saarel of Swarthmore.

However, it was the quad of Bryn Mawr runners that stole the show. Led by junior Kim Wiley (13th overall – 22:35) showing the way and pacing the group, the pack included freshman Sydney Maves (11th– 22:23), junior Elaine Schmidt (12th– 22:34) and sophomore Alexandra Beda (16th -23:17), placed 2-5 for the Owls in team points.

Making their college debut on the race course was freshman runners Adriana Castilla Hernandez (31:26) and Kristian Sumner (34:17). Sophomore Betsy Helm ran a personal best in the 5K with a time of 27:56 as well as freshman Jocelyn Martinez (27:33)

Making an improvement from the same race a year ago, sophomore's Yue Yang and Margaret Patchin ran times of 27:49 and 28:54, respectively.

The Owls are back to action when they travel to White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del., for the University of Delaware Invite on Saturday, Sept. 14. Race time is 10:30 am.
