LANCASTER, Pa. - Bryn Mawr midfielder Mary Cugini had a fantastic offensive week for the Owls last week, and she has earned herself Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Centennial Conference as a result.
Cugini, a senior captain from Pittsburgh, Pa., tallied two goals apiece in both of the Owls' big wins last week. Against Hood, Cugini registered the opening goal of the day, then added a second later in the game. On Saturday against Drew, she repeated the feat, scoring the opener and then adding an insurance goal later in the day. She also added a key assist early in the contest against the Rangers. With both games being shutout wins for the Owls, Cugini's first goals ended up being game-winners. That gives her five game-winning goals in her career, a new school record in recorded Bryn Mawr field hockey program history.
Cugini has been on a tear to start the season. The senior is now ranked first in the Centennial Conference and fourth in the country in goals per game, and she is fifth nationally in points per game as well.
After two weeks of action, the Owls sit at 3-0 on the year and haven't allowed a shot on goal, much less an actual goal against. They have outscored their opponents 19-0, and they'll look to keep their positive momentum rolling when they get back in action on Wednesday at home. The Owls will welcome Wilson College to campus for a 4:30 PM start, with the contest wrapping up Bryn Mawr's four-game homestand to start the season.
