MEDIA, Pa. - After a tough loss at home Friday evening the Bryn Mawr Volleyball team hit the road Saturday morning to Penn State Brandywine in Media Pennsylvania, with their sights set on clenching their first season opener. Unfortunately, the Owls fell short against the Lions and fell to a tough 0-3 loss.
The Owls certainly began the match strong. Junior, Camille Baechler and Freshman Eliza Todd aided in this process with their powerful kills. In addition, Camille Baechler's strong serves placed the owls at a 6-5 lead, where she gained 3 back to back points for the Owls. This in turn led to a small rally against the teams. Sienna Burnett contributed in attempting to hold off the Lions as well, however Brandywine proved to be stronger and closed out the set with a 25-15 edge over the Owls. The Owls were able to earn a total of 7 kills in the first set, placing them only four kills behind the Lions.
In the second set it was evident that the Owls had gradually lost their initial spark of momentum. Penn State Brandywine dominated the beginning of the second leaving the Owls at a 18-2 deficit by the middle of the set. The Lions', Margot Gargus was the team's leading scorer due to her 13 point possession in the second set. Small errors that began to add up was the reasoning for the Bryn Mawr's loss of the second set.
Despite the Owls 0-2 deficit at the beginning of the third set the team still had hope. After many rally's Bryn Mawr was able to come within three points after once being down nearly seven earlier in the set. However, once again Penn State Brandywine showed their ability to close out a set, and won the match.
Bryn Mawr will look to bounce back from the loss when they return to action next week. The Owls will be back on their home court on Thursday September 7th at 7:00 PM.
