BRYN MAWR, Pa. – This Thursday evening the Bryn Mawr Owls took on the Rosemont Ravens with hope in landing their first win of the season. Little did they know that they would not only land their first win but also have the third-most aces as a team in a 4-set match in Bryn Mawr history. Powered by 10 or more kills from three different players the Bryn Mawr Owls were able to come out on top and land their 13th straight win against Rosemont.
It was a strong opening set as BMC grabbed an early 14-10 lead over the Ravens. However the Ravens were full of determination and continued to battle back cutting the deficit to 19-22 late in the frame. Kills from Camille Baechler, Eliza Todd and Jessie Zong gave the Owls the momentum to close out the set by a score of 25-19.
The second frame seemed to be off to a rough start due to small errors posed by BMC placing them at a 0-5 deficit. However the team quickly pulled it together and responded with a strong kill by Sienna Burnett, one of the three Owls to record over 10 kills in the night. In addition, service aces by Cassandra Paiz propelled the Owls forward, placing them at a 7-6 lead over the Ravens. The Owls continued to turn up the heat and close out yet another set with a win.
The battle continued on into the third frame and it was rough from the start. The Owls fell behind 7-3 after a 5 point run from the Ravens early in the set. However Camille Baechler, Eliza Todd and Sienna Burnett gave the team hope as they battled back and executed great kills, set from Nolan Julien. In fact Nolan Julien had a total of 35 assists for the night. The third set proved to be nail-bitter as the two teams were locked in several times in the late stages of the frame however the Owls fell short (21-25) as the Ravens won the set.
Although the Owls were not able to close out the game after the third frame they knew the ball was still in their court. The Owls dominated the fourth frame from beginning to end. A kill from freshman Eliza Todd closed out the match (25-19) and landed the Owls their first win of the season.
