Gonzales Ties School Record, Terry Wins Hurdles as Owls Shine at Gwynedd Mercy

Julie Gonzales clears the pole vault to tie her school record at the 2019 Gwynedd Mercy Invitational

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr track and field team was back in action earlier Wednesday, as the Owls took part in the popular Gwynedd Mercy Midweek Twilight Invitational. There were plenty of strong performances throughout the meet, including those of senior Julie Gonzales and sophomore Jennica Terry.

Gonzales stood out in the pole vault, an event she has excelled in ever since her arrival at Bryn Mawr. Already the school record holder in the event, she went out and matched her program-best mark of 3.05 meters with a fantastic performance today. Gonzales took second place in the event with that effort.

Terry was also on fire at today's meet, beginning with her performance in the 100 hurdles. The sophomore finished in second in the prelims of the event, coming up just four tenths-of-a-second shy of Eastern's Nicole Weenink. Terry flipped the script in the finals though, as she sprinted home in a time of 15.11 to outpace Weenink and the rest of the field to take first place in the event. Terry also ran a very solid 200 meter dash, improving upon her previous season-best with a time of 27.07.

Katie Billings was another of Bryn Mawr's top performers on the day, as the senior set a new personal record in the javelin with a mark of 11.83 meters. Billings also cleared 1.30 meters in the high jump to take ninth place in that event.

Kass Wojcik was another Owl to lower her conference qualifying time, as the first-year ran a 1:02.65 in the 400 dash to claim fifth place. Wojcik also ran the 200 and finished in sixth place, just behind Terry, in a time of 27.17.

Haley Varnum qualified for conferences in the 400, as she ran a 1:05.62 to take 11th place in the event. Varnum also posted a solid time of 29.34 in the 200 as well.

Bryn Mawr will be right back in action this weekend as they travel to New Jersey for the Osprey Open at Stockton University on Friday and Saturday.
