Spiegel Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Emily Spiegel Philly SIDA Academic All Area winner

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Bryn Mawr rowing's Emily Spiegel has been voted as one of the nine members of the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Rowing Team after another fantastic season. The senior earns her second-straight appearance on the honor roll, which is selected via nominations and voting by the athletics communications offices of 30 of the Philadelphia metropolitan area higher education institutions. In order to be eligible for the Academic All-Area team, a student-athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

Spiegel, a 2018 graduate from Selinsgrove, Pa., helped the Owls to their best four-year period in Bryn Mawr rowing program history, capping things off with a tremendous 2017-18 campaign this past season. She helped the Owls earn their best-ever finish at the Dad Vail Regatta, winning a silver medal at that event as a key member of the Bryn Mawr Varsity 8 boat. Spiegel also collected another bronze medal at the Murphy Cup Regatta. She was named to the 2018 All-MARC Varsity Team, 2018 All-Seven Sisters Rowing Team, and 2018 MARC Academic All-Conference Team. Spiegel also received Bryn Mawr's Anne Lee Delano award this year, which is presented to the school's outstanding senior student-athlete. She graduated from the College last month with a degree in Biology and will work as a management consulting analyst for Accenture following graduation.

Spiegel was the lone NCAA Division III athlete named to the Academic All-Area team; the other eight members of the squad all rowed at Drexel, Templs, Saint Joseph's, or Penn, including Penn's Regina Salmons, who was named Performer of the Year for 2018.
